The official launch of showcases for replicas of historical artefacts for State Middle Schools<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday 19 November 2024, a ceremony was held at the Hall of St Thomas More College Carlo Diacono Middle and Secondary School, in which a showcase with historical artefacts was unveiled for use in State Middle Schools. A total of 13 showcases have been given to the State Middle School by the History Department within the DELH which will host several replicas of historical artifacts from pre-history to the Middle Ages. This was done so that the students, while observing and handling such artefacts, could reach conclusions about the people and the time when similar artefacts were used.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Sandra Ebejer, Director DELH delivered the opening address and unveiled one of the showcases in the presence of the Mr George Psaila, Head of College Network, Mr Adrian Galea, Head of School and Mr Raymond Spiteri, Education Officer for History. For this ceremony there were among the guests, assistant directors, assistant heads of schools, officials from Heritage Malta and the Faculty of Education, educational officers, heads of departments and history teachers from the Middle Schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Jesmond Grech, Head of Department for History in that school, delivered a speech explaining the importance of teaching history in the curriculum, while Mr. Raymond Spiteri\u2019s presentation focused on the educational benefits of teaching history using replicas of historical artefacts. Mr. Jonathan Muscat, HOD, announced a hands-on exercise involving samples from the artefacts carried out by a group of Year 7 and 8 students.  The students, under the guidance of their teachers, Ms Graziella Busuttil and Ms Antoinette Agius, were given time to explain their conclusions to the audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end the reception, representatives from the Middle Schools were able to collect the replicas of historical artefacts allocated to their school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
